The Vintage 15, Texas' most exciting up-and-coming big band jazz and swing ensemble, features Hans and Rachael Stockenberger, a husband and wife duo who provide the vocal portion of the band. Rachael is a professionally trained opera singer and the former Miss Tulsa Oklahoma, and together, the duo helps make The Vintage 15 a compelling listen from the start. Bandleader and seasoned trumpet player, Steve Moreland, has assembled fifteen fresh faces from major cities all over the country to carve out a corner of the Austin, Texas jazz scene. The Vintage 15 takes their name literally, as their music is built on the heritage of the Great American Song Book, with the band playing a variety of jazz standards from legends such as Frank Sinatra, Harry Connick, Jr., and Michael Bublé. The EP features three standard picks including an interpretation of Baby, It's Cold Outside, Orange Colored Sky, and The Best Is Yet To Come.
The Vintage 15's angle of youth and experience is the first thing noticed about this band of twenty-to-thirty-something-year-old jazz lovers, who's line-up is as follows: Steve Moreland - Bandleader/Trumpet; Hans and Rachael Stockenberger - Lead Vocals; Owen Summers, Wes Peart, Charles Lee, Robert Perkins– Sax; Kyle Johnson, Tori Moreland, Jonathan Schuab – Trombone; Josh Davies, Mike Sailors, Iram Reys – Trumpet; Mike St. Clair, Derek Tarnow, Zach Knox, Jason Flenniken - Rhythm Section.
The first Vintage 15 rehearsal took place in 2009 once Moreland finished selecting the original fifteen members. Since then, The Vintage 15 has travelled all across Texas to cities such as Houston, Dallas and Galveston, and even cities including Tyler, Texarkana, and Hot Springs, Arkansas in 2011. The Vintage 15 can be found playing all types of events ranging from weddings to birthday blowouts, formals, corporate parties and even the Mad Men first season première.
Developing fresh takes on classic jazz standards has been the goal ever since. In January 2010, the band entered the studio to record with Austin producer, Bradley Kopp. The band turned out an EP with plans on recording a full-length album. In 2011, The Vintage 15 recorded their first full-length studio album and was featured in the all-original album, On The Fly, by Austin-based jazz composer, Wes Peart; both available for purchase through their website and iTunes in January 2012. In the meantime, the local jazz scene and event coordinators from all across the country have kept the band busy.
"We're young, we're fun and we love to play that music. You want a night of great jazz standards and martinis; you call us." And they do.
